The SKJF and Operation Iraqi Freedom

"The Ultimate Gasshuku" (Training Camp)

The above photo was taken inside a hand to hand combative pit, country of origin not disclosed, in March 2003.  Seated in seiza is SKJF Sensei & United States Army Major Matt Michaelson.  In the letter that accompanied this photo sent to O'Sensei Brian R.Fey (Executive Director & Chief Instructor of the SKJF) Sensei Michaelson states "Your training, directly to American soldiers in a Combat Theater of Operations".

"ShotoKan Roots / Army Application"

Sensei Michaelson seen demonstrating, has been studying ShotoKan Karatedo under O'Sensei Fey and the SKJF for some 20 years now.  Along with holding the rank of Godan he was also the Unarmed Combat and Tactics Instructor at West Point.  Sensei Michaelson's being able to take authentic ShotoKan techniques and use them in innovative and versatile military applications has definitely been an asset to the United States Army.

"Self Defense Seminar"

Sensei Michaelson is back stateside at this time and has not been resting on his laurels.  Demonstrating ideals worthy of an SKJF Sensei and US Army Officer, he has designed a seminar for the spouses of Soldiers in his current assigned unit, that teach self defense. I am most positive that with his ShotoKan background and military experience, it contains no "Cardio Kickboxing", but practical and effective self defense techniques.

"O'Sensei Fey & Sensei (Major) Michaelson"

Sensei Michaelson, you have given honor to O'Sensei Fey as well as to the SKJF / ShotoJukuKai as a whole by the actions and deeds you have undertaken.  A small breach of reishiki (etiquette) as humility dictates our dispositions in the SKJF, but I am sure forgiveness will be forthcoming as I disclose how very proud we are of you for your service to our country and for moving forward with the SKJF.
