Special Bay View Training

Our special classes last weekend were well received by BVK students.
Sensei Joseph LaPlaca, the Northeast Regional Representative for Shotokan
Karatedo of Japan Federation, presented a great seminar for us on Friday
and Saturday.  26 Bay View members took part in the 2-day event, which
included lots of basics and kata, as well as break-out sessions for brown
and black belt skills practice.  We were also honored to host Sensei Jack
Doughty, who drove all the way from New Jersey with 2 of his fine black
belt students.  Both sessions were well attended: Friday at the Bay View
dojo, and Saturday at the Empire dojo.

We look forward to more opportunities like this with Sensei LaPlaca.  His
relationship with Bay View is a special one.  Many years ago, I was
Sensei LaPlaca's very first student, so he rightfully looks upon all BVK
students as his "grandchildren!"  Since 1994, when he and I joined the
SKJF, Sensei LaPlaca and I have trained a number of times with Sensei
Brian Fey, head of SKJF, who in turn studied directly under Sensei
Kanazawa, the world's only living Shotokan 10th dan.  So we have a direct
and very short line to the highest authority in our style of karate.

Thank you for making last weekend's effort a success.
